But it was on sale at Borders, and I was looking for something to read, so I bought it.
Turns out, it's actually a pretty good read. Since it was a nonfiction book about history, I thought it might get boring. But so far it has not been boring at all. It's really like reading a story... except it's all true, which makes it even more interesting.

Thoughts on Chapter 1:
Having always been in Protestant churches, I've just taken a lot of the theology for granted. I knew about Luther and the Reformation, but I didn't know about Wycliffe and all the people who challenged the Catholic church before Luther. A lot of people made great sacrifices for their beliefs... makes me wonder if I would have done the same if I were in their shoes. Certainly gives me a lot to be thankful about, especially having the Bible to read for myself, and freedom of religion in this country.
The Door

This commercial made me cry the first time I saw it.

To Move or Not To Move...

That is the question.

Should we stay in MD or move to SD?

I'm just starting to feel settled in here in MD...
...and we have to starting thinking about moving again.

So much to think about... cost of living, if I can find a job in SD (I have two jobs here now, plus private tutoring), finding a new church, making new friends, earthquakes, traffic, weather, buying a house...

The first couple of months here were pretty depressing for me - nothing to do, no friends, no job
Don't really want to go through that again.
But I do hate driving around here, and I do like the SD weather.

I guess if I could bring my currently level of "settled-in-ness" to SD with me, it would be a lot easier to move.
How to decide?

Go see UP!

Really cute movie.
And I want a Kevin... and a Doug.

better than the next...

I just saw a TV commercial for Nutri-Systems (diet program).
One lady said she got hooked after trying the first meal and that "... each meal was better than the next..."

Hmmm... doesn't that mean that the meals got worse with each one?

BTW, has anyone else seen a braking cow? Jeth and I were driving to work the other day and noticed a toy cow sitting on a tow-hitch on the SUV in front of us. Every time the car braked, the cow would shake its arms (forelegs) frantically. It was pretty funny. It made us wish we had camera phones so we could have gotten a picture or video of it.

Wizards vs. Raptors

Last night Jeth and I went to see our first Wizards game at the Verizon Center.
Wizards lost.
Good thing about going to see two not-so-good teams play - can get good seats at a cheap price and at the last minute.
We bought our tickets less than 24 hours before the game started
Business Proposition?

I received the following email from WANG HONGZHANG (wang@pbc.gov.cn)

Hello,
I am Mr.Wang HongZhang,Chief Disciplinary Officer,People's Bank of China
(PBC).I have an profitable business proposal of $24.5 million USD for
you.Please reply if interested.
Kind Regards,
Wang HongZhang

Hmmm... no thanks. I have to say, this one has better English than most other such spam/scam I get.
When I posted an ad for tutoring on Craigslist, I had nothing but scam emails responding to it. When I responded to an ad requesting a tutor (a very normal sounding ad), that turned out to be a scam too.
It's amazing how many people are out there running these scams... don't they have anything better to do with their time?

While I'm ranting... I just want to mention I don't like Maryland/DC drivers. I'm sure there are much worse places to drive, but this is bad enough for me. I want to go back and drive in Urbana again.

On a lighter note, Happy Easter Everyone!
I get to teach children's Sunday school for the first time at my new church this Sunday... but it'll be a short class since we're having an Easter egg hunt for the kids.

Saturday, February 21, 2009

Love this manga!
Wish I could be at school with them.

What Would You Do?

Jeth and I were having dinner at a local sushi restaurant last night. The hostess brought an Asian couple to the table next to us. The couple went to the restroom before they set down. While they were gone, their waitress brought them the appetizers (free stuff everyone gets). There were two American couples at the table on the other side. One of the guys took a piece of the appetizer the waitress just brought... then I heard one of the women say, "Just take the whole bowl!" He followed her advice and took the whole thing.

The Asian couple came back, and apparently didn't notice that anything was missing from their table. When the waitress came back to take their order, she also didn't seem to notice the missing appetizers.

I felt really bad for that couple but wasn't sure if I should say something...
